Linda's Moly resurfaces!

Linda's moly finally turned up after spending about 3 and a half months lost in the wilderness of the USPS. I added the following entry inspired by the sketchbooks of James Jean, one of my favorite artists. He's got an amazing new book of sketches out, Process Recess 3:The Hallowed Seam and I just got my copy.

UPDATE (1/1/10): I added some more background noise to this entry and sent it back to Linda and it seems to have made it home safe and sound (feel free to bug her to get back in this group ;-)

I also started working on Heidi's moly (still need to add my self-portrait) and here's what it looks like so far:

Heidi's portraits

I got 2 books in the mail yesterday...both with gorgeous drawings by Heidi that I don't think we've seen before. The first is her self-portrait opening her book and the second is from Robert's. Beautiful, Heidi!

On the other hand I'm wondering what we should do with this exchange. We're now down to 7 participants from the original 15 and of those 7 I'm not really sure who's actively involved. If everyone who's still here could please check in and talk about what we'd like to do from here I'd appreciate it. Maybe we could reopen this group to some new blood over on the moly_x flickr page? Other suggestions welcome.

Mailing today Hiedi's sketchbook to Tim

I just emailed Tim to get an address again to see what is what since I recall he said hisaddress will be changing soon. I had fun working on this. I know we are suppose to do us and the person but I hate drawing myself and just did Hiedi. It was so hard to choose which one to do but I picked the one of her on the merry go round. Merry go rounds are cool.

I'm bowing out also....

Since my moly has been lost, I've decided to bow out also. Shante was going to send me back Heidi's moly but I've asked her to forward it to Tim instead. I have Rob's moly and I will send that to Tim this week.

I'll still check in from time to time. I am anxious to see what great pieces everyone creates. Take care!

Hiedi's Moly and

I will give Hiedi's Moly back to Linda and then I think I am bowing out of the group.

I received an email from Tim the other day asking about Linda's moly that I sent in August. It seems it is lost and never made it to Tim's house. :( I'm really sad to hear that.

Moly's not lost or ppl bowing out but not passing onthe moly's has sapped my strength and make me not want to particiapte.

I received Rob's moly from Heidi today. Currently, it's the only moly I have (I gave Shante Heidi's moly to work on first, then I will work it and mail it on). Heidi, I hope you have a great trip!

My entry to Linda's moly, off to Tim.

Here is my entry in Linda's moly, now it's off to Tim. It was fun to do both of us. Done in ink and crayons.

Updates

Good Morning Everyone:

I just put in the snail mail to Tim Linda's moly, which I will post the results in a minute. Darn computer programs at the moment.

I emailed in July and just today TRodgers about if she got my moly from Amrita. ?.?.?.?.?.?Amrita before she bowed out said she sent it after her contribution.

I was also set to go with Pepparmynta's moly that I got from Linda while she was on vacation but noticed no photos hardly in the moly or on her site to draw her. Hope to get some photos soon while I'm on a roll.

How is everyone else doing?.?. And who has what? Or did you send your own personal moly along?

Another person dropping out/ Who has what and how far are you?

Winnie Rose Reyes sent me a flickr mail saying that she is dropping out of Moly X potrait 2.
I still have Linda's moly for too long, my enthusiasm did not transpire to finishing. I will most definately make sure I finish this weekend and get it off to Tim. That will be 2 that I completed.

Out of curiosity, did everyone send out their own books? We have over 10 ppl but it seems like only 5 or 6 went out and are posted on this blog.

Also do you have anyone's book?

Though we are a slow group, I hope we pick up a little in communication and travelling books. Or are we just a dead group?
Shante

Checking in.

Hello everyone.

I am checking in to make certain that your group is moving along smoothly, and that everyone is happy. There are many moly_x groups that have stalled and are withering. There are many people who are interested in joining a portrait group, but first I want to be sure that all the people listed on this blog are interested and participating. Please write to me or post to the blog and let us know if you will continue in this group or not. If not, we will fill your seat. No worries.

I would like to have these portrait groups reorganized & settled by the end of next week.

Thanks and have a great day.

Marty

Blogger Technical Limitation.

Feeling out of touch with the group?

There is a an unfortunate limitation to Blogger that effects communication in the moly_x_portrait groups. Comment notification only allows ten email addresses. Our portrait groups have 15 members, so 5 people miss out on email notifications of comments left on this blog.

Go to upper right of blog, select customize>settings>comments>and scroll down to comment notification email if you are wondering if your email address made it on the list. If you didn't make it on the list, please try to read the blog regularly. Also, if someone could set this group up with cBox, this would be a helpful communication tool. To check it out go to moly_x_portrait1 and scroll down to the bottom of the page. I can't do it. Only one free cBox per email address.

FYI: All of the group's email addresses are available to the group through customize>settings>permissions, in case someone wants to do a group email.

Questions?

Is this thing on?

It's been well over a month since anyone posted anything new, so I was just wondering what people were up to. As for me, I'm waiting until I get a new book before I get back to work on my own. Please comment on this post as to your progress.

New Banner & Status Updates?

So, I made a banner based on the MolyX_Portraits1 group's...and as you can see it's not quite finished. We need more drawings! So, who's got something ready to go? Can everyone please leave a comment on this post just to let us know what you're working on and where the books are? Thanks.

(As far as my progress...I sent Shante's book on to Amrita last week. I've stalled on my own book and will probably wait til I get another one and send them off together.)

Shante's Moly - Finished, I think

So, I'm mailing this off tomorrow, but it still bugs me a bit. I feel like there needs to be a background color behind Shante's portrait but I'm scared to ruin it...oh well, it's off regardless. Hope you like it Shante.

The Gaze: my entree on Robert's portrait moly

The Gaze: My entree to Yelnoc's portrait moly

Here's the final scan of my page on Robert's moly.

I'll be spraying this with fixative and forwarding this soon.

Hope you like it Robert.

Yelnoc's Moly: My entree

Here's my first attempt at making an entree on Yelnoc's portrait moly...
My Entree in progress

My page in progress
I couldn't salvage the page. Tried white washing it but it wasn't really working so I cut the 2 panels and glued it back. Hope Robert forgives me.

I wanted to pick up from Robert's gaze and this is the solution I came up with...
WIP 2
Done as part of MolyX_international Exhancge and of MolyX_Portrait2

Here's Robert's self-p that I used as reference for this. Minus the bruises, that is..

Hope you like it Robert.

WIP - Linda's Moly

I just wanted to post Linda's WIP. I normally just paint and block in my ppl, but not use to painting this size so sketching first with pencil then painting.

Shante's Moly - W.I.P.

Here's a look at my page for Shante's moly...it's a work in progress. Looking through Shante's images everything she was wearing had these elaborate patterns and I decided to run with that theme, finding a hat with some patterning (you might recognize it from my wee portrait on her sign-in page) for my self-portrait. I think I bit off a lot with the intricacy but it's a challenge, that's for sure! (I don't know exactly why I chose to frame them the way I did...random impulse)

Ah! I figured out how to post !

Hi guys,

I am one of the slow pokes around in this exchange. I am a graphic design student in New York. I live in Brooklyn with my husband and two dogs. I love to journal and off late don't get a lot of time to do so, with tremendous homework. Anyway, I am about to send my small moleskine off, its a small japanese album. Have fun, stick things in. Perfection and neatness are above me. Looking forward to seeing what you guys do.

Anyway, here is what I did in Amy's moleskine.

Received Shante's Moly

I got Shante's book yesterday and did this little self-portrait on her sign-in page. I also started one other page so hopefully I can regain some momentum on this project. I apologize to everyone (especially those who have bowed out) as I'm one of the people holding this up.

Working on Robert's moly this week.

MolyX_Portrait2

Yelnoc's Moly: My Entree in progress

I'm not happy with this because it doesn't look like me. Sigh. I'll tweak the hair and hope that works. If it doesn't then I'll start over by white washing it and using acrylic instead. I'll do my best Robert.

Will send this along soon. I still need to make Robert's portrait. I finished mine tonight but it needs tweaking. Will post new photo of it as soon as I'm done.

Thanks for the patience and understanding, Robert.

And it's off.....finally

It took a moment but my first potrait for Moly_X 2 is done. My first time ever using a moleskin. I wasn't sure which photo of me I wanted to do until I ran across this one while looking for photos. It's all done in a number 2 pencil (couldn't find my variation pencils).

I received Linda's moly a few weeks ago and am half way done with it as of 1/22/09.

The Official Withdrawal Post

So, judging by comments in the last few posts, some of us are basically not content to keep going at the current pace or have too much else going on to fit in exchange art.

I'm making this post to formally withdraw from the exchange.
If anyone here wishes to also pull out, go ahead and post a comment here so at least we have a roll call in one place.
That way, the people who wish to remain and work at a leisurely pace can do so without being pressured to rush their art for the sake of the faster artists.

Whomever has my book (Tiffany?), could they return it to me at their convenience and don't send it along to the next person. My email is in my profile if you need to contact me for an address.

Maybe we can just be a slow group? What do you think?

I've also noticed that our group is moving much more slowly than many of the other groups. I also have not yet received any molys. However, based on the posts, etc. it seems like A LOT of people in our group (maybe even the majority) are moving slowly - not just one or two. Maybe that's not such a bad thing? Maybe we can be a slow moly group for people who are really swamped by life, art and work! I was concerned at first, but now I'm thinking, what's wrong with a slow group? I'm hoping we can just settle into a more relaxed pace than other groups have.... One suggestion I have is when a moly is mailed it would help if the person can contact the receiving person to let them know it's on the way. Otherwise, we don't know if the person before us is just slow to mail or if the moly was lost in the mail.

Updates?

Hey guys...

I'm getting more than a little concerned about the glacial pace this exchange is taking.
I posted my page and sent my moly off THREE MONTHS ago and I haven't received a single book from anyone else yet. Tim?
Is anyone else having concerns?
