Nicole's Moly.

I finished Nicole's Moly. It took me more time that I though. Sorry for the delay. It was very difficult to be together with such great works preceding me. I hope you like it.
Danica, could you send me your address in Flickr?

Our books so far... (12/11)

It's been 6 months since I've seen one of these overview images and I thought it might be a good time to see where we are at. Unfortunately, we’ve only seen a couple new entries since then. On the other hand Heidi’s book is finished. Yay! 2 down, 6 to go.

As for me, I sent my book on to Nicole yesterday and I have Danica’s book with me. I am hoping to work in it after Christmas and send it south to Claudio in early January. How is everyone else doing? Omar, any progress on Nicole’s book? Did Omar’s book make it to Nicole?

Have a wonderful holiday season and let’s all work hard to get these books home in 2012!

Heidi's Moly - Next?

I finally completed Heidi's moly. I drew her entire portrait with straight lines.
Check out my Flickr site for info on the drawing:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/yelnoc/6497738791/in/photostream.

There is still plenty of room for additional artwork. Based on the sign-in sheet at the beginning of this journal it looks as if everyone had drawn in it. Does anyone want to add another entry?

If not, Heidi, I'll need you to email me your new address so I can mail this to you. You can contact me through Flickr if you want.

Checking In

I received 2 books from Heidi recently, mine and Danica’s. It is so great to see my book after so long...unfortunately Heidi had started what looks to be a fun sketch, it’s a shame she wasn’t able to finish it. I’m going to send this book back out into the wilds soon, you ready for it Nicole?

Danica’s book looks great so far but only has three entries! So sad that one of our most enthusiastic members (Danica is in at least 2 other Moly_X groups and has drawn in 5 books for this group) has such a quiet book. I’ll try and be quick with my entry and send this on to Claudio ASAP.

I hope everyone is doing well wherever you are in the world. Please check in on this post and let us know what you are up to.

Hi Guys,

I have been working in Nicole 's Moly the drawing is already done , now I working with ink. it is a little difficult to even try to top the previus entries. I think I will be ready in a week more.

On the other side some of my drawings were published in the Uppercase magazine , a great canadian pubblication. you can check it here

I also try to get a ticket to do a travel to paint in the middle east. It is a competition for german residents that you can win by votes. But the good think is that everybody can vote. Unfortunatly the text is in english but I explained in my post how to vote, check it here

About my life.. I am trying to seattle down in Berlin, what is kind of difficult since I still can't find a job. I keep painting everyday, and even a drawing will come in the cover of a magazine next month.

I thank you very much if you can vote for me.

I Received my book today...

Thanks a lot Robert, Nicole, Tim Clary, Danica and Omar for the fantastic entries. You are so gifted and thaks for share your talent and precious time to work in my book. I 'll post some images from my book asap. Maybe we can start a new round some day with a renewed group after we recover all the books from "black holes".
Thanks again. Your boring ( but honest ) brazilian friend. I love MolyX :-))

Hello Heidi!

Heidi,

Looking back through the old posts I see that you have had both mine and Danica’s molies since at least March. That is over 6 months! This situation is no longer acceptable. Please, please just mail them on. I understand that you are a student and are probably slammed with work...there is no shame in leaving the group...but hanging onto other people’s work for this long is just no good.

Please respond to this post and we can figure out exactly where these books need to go.

Thanks,

-Tim

Omar's Book

Finished coloring today. The premise behind this was to challenge myself. I found a photo of Omar that was very similar to a photo of myself I've been wanting to draw. I think it turned out fairly well - happy with the results! Looks like the scan was a little blurry in the middle near one of his eyes though...

Hopefully you like it, Omar!

Lars Käker

Lars is a virtuoso artist from Germany who is following our blog, I recommend a visit to his excellent work on his blog.

He has painted portraits with a series of excellent technique and using the same palette, atmosphere and light, so that the collective result is as good as each individual picture.

Our books so far... (6/11)

So, it’s been 3 months since I did one of these and we’ve only had a couple new entries. A little bit discouraging but the books look great and I still can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with next.

Can everyone please check in and let us know which books you have and what you’re up to? Thanks.

Sketching Nicole

I started working some ideas for Nicoles Moly... I really admire her work and it makes me feel very humble. So I got this idea to portrait her as a saint or a queen and I start doodling around, so this is one of the ideas I have.
I am quite creative this days and I would like to have a real moly in my hands. Heidi: why don't you send me Danicas moly? I promise I will finish it very fast (2 weeks)and I send you back again if you still have not finish it.(I am in Canada for the next 50 days)

Interview with Nicole

Emily O’Marra by Nicole Little

Over on the new blog for Julia Kay’s Portrait Party, Kai conducted a nice interview with our own Nicole Little. Check it out.

I love the portrait party. It's one of the most active and fun flickr groups around. Check it out if you haven’t already. (Click here to see all my JKPP portraits. Including Danica, Omar, Nicole and moly_x founder, Marty Harris)

In the mail tomorrow

Sending this to Nicole :) - My idea was to draw it as though I was taking a candid picture of us. (ie. holding the camera out myself)

Heidi's Moly.

Alright, here's a progress shot but I have began to color Heidi's Moly.

Not going to lie, this was a very intimidating book to work in. All the entries leading up to mine were done in pencil only and very beautiful. I began mine in pencil telling myself maybe I should add minimal color but I got out my markers and gave it a shot.

Unfortunately the color I tried to use for my skin didn't quite turn out well. Not sure if it is running out or not but it was streaky, and darker than I wanted. I always color test my markers on a piece of paper so I know what to expect but I consistently forget that the moleskine paper is much different.

I'll work with it a bit more and it'll be sent out on Friday at the latest.

chart

Hi guys, I start sketching some ideas for the portrait of Nicole. I still don't have the book, but I prefer to think now before I get the book, that way I will win some time. At the same time is a way to avoid feeling detach from the Molly exchange. Drawing Nicole is not an easy task. I found a lot of wedding fotos where she looks wonderful, but to fit in the book I have to invent another story. The diffcult part with this portrait exchange is the selfportrait, you get tired with the time. I guess I will try to hide myself in the picture and people should find me.
By the way I would like to ask if Heidi could you send me Danicas Molly? I know that I am the last in the row. But I will like to finish my last portrait. I have done many months ago a beautiful sketch of our portraits and I will like to do it in the Moleskine before I get more complicate in my life again. I promise to the group be fast a give to the next one inmeadiatly. What you say?

The postman visited me today!!

It is a beautiful and challenging book, I will strive to maintain the high level.
I've seen this in Minneapolis, but I do not tire of saying how beautiful is the work of Nicole, and Tim was also lovely. I love the idea of the book on the table to make small doodles.
Thanks for the gift Tim :-))))
Hi guys,
I have no book, or sketches to share with you, but I want you to notice this project:

http://pictorical.com/

Do you know about it? It looks wonderful. Based on your portfolio, they may accept you as an illustrator for iPad, iPhone e-books. You can choose a story/novel to illustrate and work as fast as you want. In the end, they will publish it and you'll get 50% of the income.
As soon as I'll have time, I will send them my portfolio. Im sure some books with your illustration would be cool too ;)

In Germany

Hi Guys,

In my way to Canada I'm spending 1 week in Germany. I am doing some drawings of the ballet company of the Staatstheater in Hanover.
I'm getting a little bored without a book. I had already done an sketch for Danica's Molly... I waiting for months for that book.... I would love to do it in acrylic again... it is a surealistic image...and I really happy with the idea. ...I will start thinking in Nicole's book as soon as I arrive in Canada. Hey, Nicole! maybe I can meet you when I'm in Canada.
Anybody knows when we get Roberts book back from the exhibition?

Status report?

So, this is how I like to try and keep track of things in the group. As you can see it’s getting a little hard to tell what’s going on. Can everyone please, please check in on this post and let everyone know which books you have and if you’re making any progress? I know we all have busy lives but this project is important to all of us and it would be great if we could get some of the stalled books moving again. Thanks gang!

moving

Hi guys,
I moving again. this time to Canada, Saint John's, New Foundland. I will visit my mother but I will like also to travel and visit Toronto , Montreal and Quebec, and the east coast of the States: Washington, Boston and New York, and of course Lincoln, Nebrasca. At least that is my wish. I will be painting and I will love to use that time to do the last books. I just have to do entries in 2 books, Nicole's book that is in his way to Brasil, I guess since Ramires works very fast that will my next one, and Danicas book. Who is working in Danica's book now?

Our books so far... (3/11)

Wow, these books look amazing! Can’t wait to see what everybody does next.

Nicole’s moly

I’ve been working on Nicole’s book ever since I got back from my trip to Minneaopolis for the MCBA show. I think it’s almost done but I can’t decide whether or not to add any color or tones to her portrait or mine. I’m a bit worried about screwing it up...but I’m also not sure if it looks unbalanced without them. Thoughts?

Oh! I almost forgot to mention the little guest appearance by Marty’s little raccoon! Our fearless leader himself added that and I thought everyone could add a little doodle to the moly on the table in this.

UPDATE: I worked on the background a bit more and after adding the grey to the computer and Nicole’s headphones I’ve decided it’s finished. I’ll send it off to Claudio on Monday.

How is everyone else doing? We haven’t seen an update in a while. I’m not even sure who has what at this point. Could everyone check in on this post?

MolyXers in Minnesota!

I had a wonderful time in Minnesota over the last few days with Claudio and Marty Harris (our gracious host and the founder of our incredible project). It was a bit surreal meeting these guys for the first time, yet knowing them so well from moly_x...it was much more like seeing old friends rather than people I’d never met in the flesh before.

Talkin’ Moly_X with Marty at MCBA

Last night we had a wonderful Q&A session with Roz Stendhal’s Visual Journal Collective at the Moly_X exhibit at Minnesota Center for Book Arts. The ladies were all very enthusiastic and several have already expressed interest in joining the fun.

Working on Nicole’s book at Marty’s house with Claudio

Sadly I was not able to finish Nicole’s book in time to send it off with Claudio today (Too much fun with ‘The Band’ as Claudio was calling us). But I will get it done before I skip town.

I encourage anyone within driving distance of Minneaopolis to try and stop by the MCBA show before it comes down on March 6th. It’s truly inspiring to see so many of these amazing books up together at once.

Here's the link to it on my Flickr page:

I'm happy with Tim's portraits, not too happy with mine.

I'll send this to Heidi tomorrow.

Dana’s moly...complete!?!?!

With the addition of Nicole’s awesome entry, Dana’s book has now reached everyone in the group! It's been to 5 countries, 4 different states and crossed the Atlantic twice! Amazing! (Click to see it MUCH bigger.)

However, by my estimation there's still about 10 blank pages left over. I guess I’m wondering what everyone would like to do now that many of our books are nearing “completion”? We could leave them as they stand and get them back to their owners, or we could recruit some new folks to try to fill every page...we could even send them around to the current members for a second round (maybe not portraits for the second round?). What do you guys think? Dana should definitely get to decide what to do with her book next but I thought it might be good to talk over some options.

Dana

Now it goes back to Dana?

Our books so far... (2/11)

Look at all those beautiful people! These books are turning out truly amazing! I just got Nicole’s book in the mail and had to rescan it...the colors are so much more subtle than her original image shows. It's beautiful! I also love the transition she made in Ramires’ book. Very cool.

On a side note the Rochester Contemporary Art Center just recently announced that they’ll once again be doing their 6x6 show. Last year they received 5000 pieces and it made for an amazing show! The deadline for entries is not until May 1st so check it out if you're interested.

I did a little post on last year's show over on my blog as well. And here's a shot of me during last year’s opening; feel free and use it as reference if you like.

Chart January 2011

hi here is the new stand. Please confirm if you have received the Molys....and if everything is correct.
I agree with you Tim, you should send Ramires Molly to Nicole.

New moly-xer

Hi there!

I'm a Nicole, an artist, and a Canadian. I am also a new member of your fantastic group and very much looking forward to contributing and to seeing your fabulous works in person.

Mostly, I work in markers (Promarkers, Copics and Sharpies). Don't worry! I will be taking care to use pencil until the proportions are right and, of course, I will protect the drawings from marker bleed-through. If you would like to take a look at my work, google 'littleoutrage'. The first hit should be my flickr page. I have a few different styles but only one which is even remotely popular... I'll be using that one if I can manage it.

It's a real honour (that's Canadian spelling, not incompetence) to be a part of this group. I'll do my best not to disappoint.

Thanks!
Nicole Little

Our books so far... (1/11)

So, here's where we stand at the start of 2011! Just about 1 year after most of you joined the group. It's a really wonderful body of work we have created together. Here's wishing everyone the best for the coming year. Let's keep on pushing and perhaps some of these books will be completed by this time next year!

Ramires' Moly - Finally finished!

Happy New Year everyone. I hope 2011 is treating you well so far.

So, I've had Ramires' book for far too long now but after the incredible image he made for my book I felt I really had to knock this out of the park. After scrapping a few different sketches I hit upon the idea of using Ramires' own dream-like images in the drawing. I've loved his blimp-whales ever since I found them on his flickrstream. I also love his intricate speaker systems which suspend from the whales. I figured Claudio should definitely captain the wonderful craft bringing ethereal sounds to all those he drifts over. Hope you like it Claudio!

I'm debating adding full-color to the two inset panels, but I'll probably just leave them alone. Now, who should this go to next? Or should I send it to Marty and see if he can squeeze it into the show?
